The new Booths supermarket in Milnthorpe

A new Booths store is due to open in Milnthorpe next week – becoming the 29th store in the firm’s empire.

The store on an industrial site at Grisleymires Lane will create more than 60 new jobs and will contain fresh food counters, including a butchers, fishmongers, delicatessen, hot food and cheesemongers.

It will open next Wednesday, November 14.

The new store is placed to benefit from regional suppliers in Lancashire, Cumbria and Yorkshire, including products such as Holker Salt Marsh lamb raised on the Cartmel peninsula and Morecambe Bay potted shrimps.

John Reynolds has been appointed as store manager of Booths Milnthorpe, having worked at Booths for 12 years.

He was manager at the Ulverston store for five years, and was most recently in charge at the Settle store.

John, 32, lives in Carnforth, with his wife Rebecca, and two children.

The new 1,600 metre store and 126-space car park was approved by South Lakeland District Council in May last year, despite opposition among some independent shopowners who fear their trade could suffer.
