The aptly-named Ron Wood has been making rocking horses since he took retirement as an engineer 12 years ago.
But Ron has now found a willing apprentice to take the “reins” from his business. Dave Walker, 37, from Walkers Woodworking on Willow Business Park off the Lune Industrial Estate, has started on his first rocking horse for his daughter Ruby, and sealed it with a copy of the Lancaster Guardian inside with Ron keeping careful watch.
Ronnie’s first horse was built for his granddaughter in 2001. Each is hand carved from hard woods then painted and mounted onto the rocking base.
Sealed inside the belly of each horse is a “time capsule” containing a letter from Ronnie, a newspaper of the day and a few coins.
