A popular city centre pub has been given the go-ahead to convert some of its rooms into guest accommodation.

The Borough on Dalton Square has secured planning permission to create 12 en-suite bedrooms by expanding into adjacent council-owned office space at 4, Dalton Square – part of the CityLab building.

Costing £400,000, the scheme will create 10 jobs and involve use of empty space on the second floor of the existing pub building and in the ‘coach house’ at the rear of the property.

Pub owner, Martin Horner, said it was an exciting time for the city of Lancaster and he hopes the accommodation will be open in time for Christmas.

The accommodation will be operated from the bar instead of through a separate reception area. A garden area is to be created in the rear yard.

Permission was granted at a meeting of Lancaster City Council’s planning committee at Lancaster Town Hall on Monday.
