Pride in our young local swimmers

When I first arrived in Lancaster I often heard it said that it’s a city that feels like a village.

At first I thought it was reference to the lack of large high street chains but I soon came to realise that it meant there was true community spirit.

As the largest and longest established legal firm in the area, Oglethorpe, Sturton & Gillibrand (OSG) has been part of this diverse and engaged community for more than 150 years and I am pleased to say we have recently opened a new chapter in our support of it.

Given our location at the gateway to the Lakes and with Morecambe Bay on our doorstep it is hardly surprising that a large part of community life in the district revolves around the outdoors and sport. Many of the solicitors here at OSG and their families are part of local sports clubs which provide a range of possibilities for the young (and not so young) alike – and a few of them have enjoyed as much success as the Carnforth Otters.

The Carnforth Otters are an amateur competitive swimming club who workswith over 250 children from as young as four. They have had amazing success over the years, and their ranks include a world record holder and an Olympic 2016 hopeful. We are proud to announce that this year we will become the club’s main sponsor. What makes their success story even more remarkable is that the Carnforth Otters are entirely funded by the families of the children who swim and the generosity of the instructors who provide their support for free. So when the club approached OSG to be their first kit sponsor we were delighted to be able to help. Having frequently sponsored individual local sports and cultural events this is another great opportunity to provide long term support and share in the successes of this amazing club. In the coming months we’ll will be cheering on the Carnforth Otters to continue success in the top divisions of the North Lancs, North West and National Arena Leagues.
