David Morris has met with the MD of Intercity West Coast to discuss restoring mainline platforms at Carnforth.

The Morecambe & Lunesdale MP said: “I am delighted with my meeting with Richard Parry from First Group.

“He has assured us that if the West Coast service continues to stop for 20 minutes at Carnforth, they will seriously consider opening it up to passengers.

“He was also very positive about giving us permission to reopen the platforms, giving us the opportunity to stop the trans-pennine services that go to Kendal.”

Peter Yates MBE, who also attended the meeting, said: “It was very encouraging meeting with Richard because he has an open mind about using the station to its full potential.

“With each of these meetings, we take a step closer to realising the potential of Carnforth Station to become a hub of sustainable transport that will benefit South Lakes, Furness Peninsula, the Lakes, the Dales and our own community in Morecambe and Lunesdale.”

Mr Morris has campaigned for a long time to restore the West Coast Mainline platforms at Carnforth to link the station with Windermere, Kendal, London and beyond.

David Morris raised the issues at the Westcoast Mainline Franchise Decision debate in Westminster Hall.
