PLANS for a boutique hotel to be built at a former nightclub site in the centre of Lancaster have been shelved in favour of student flats.
City businessman Anas Mister had hoped to develop the hotel on the site of the former Warehouse nightclub in North Road.
He bought the site, along with its neighbouring properties – a disused warehouse and former motorbike shop – in 2009 for £267,000.
The land was previously owned by property developer Chris Tudor-Whelan, whose plans to build a £1.5m,
23-bedroom hotel, restaurant and wine bar collapsed because of the recession.
The current economic climate has now also forced Mr Mister to drop his ambitious plans for a hotel operator to lease the site.
He had been in talks with three hotel operators about the scheme, but is now planning to build more student housing.
