Two students have been using their business skills to develop their own product and brand.

Mathew Whelan and Mike Fort, from Lancaster and Morecambe College have developed the Lazy Bake – a microwaveable chocolate brownie.

They are already in talks with local shops interested in stocking their product.

The brownie needs just a drop of oil and water to add to the mix and a microwave to heat it.

Mathew said: “It all started through from personal taste.

“Other mug brownies are relatively simple to make, but there’s a lot of mess involved.”

The Lazy Bake, which is aimed at students, does away with the need for a mug, with a sachet of brownie mix coming in a compostable disposable container.

Mike added: “Students like food that tastes good and is quick and simple to prepare, and our product fits the bill.

“We want our product to become a student craze.”

The pair met through the Start-Up Factory; a partnership between the college and local employers who act as mentors.

While Mathew is planning on going to university after completing his Level 3 Business course he sees that as another opportunity to promote the product.
