A LANCASTER bar and nightclub has been given planning permission for a new 80-seat roof terrace overlooking the city.

The Dalton Rooms, in Dalton Square, hopes to have the new space ready for the summer.

The plans include a new corridor on the first floor of the building leading to a terrace with a covered seating area and new bar.

Grant Stringer, who owns the Dalton Rooms as well as Bar 1725 in Market Square, The Lounge in Penny Street and Hustle in Spring Garden Street, said the space afforded good views of the castle and is “a proper sun trap in summer.”

The Dalton Rooms opened in 2010 in the former Walkabout building, and has a nightclub and live music space at the back.

Mr Stringer said: “It’s a great space with one of the best views of the castle.”

Would make a great place to see the bonfire night fireworks, however they would probably charge.

PUCK.....well said and I have lived in Wagga Wagga and I am sure some of the drunks are related to the Lancastrian drunks as they must go out no matter what (even if rent not paid) and get hammered and cause vandalsm and violence. I cannot believe the council have allowed this. And yes Notsurewhattocallmyself....the money would be better used by Mr Stringer cleaning his other premises, I heard there are door mats on the inside so you can clean your feet before you leave!!!

Would probably be better to spend the money on cleaning up the toilets in the Lounge, or replacing the sticky carpets in Hustle. Revolting places these days. They need scrubbing clean!

Condor, old chap. We can't stop doing things just because there may be the odd fool who may do something stupid. You can't deprive people of something just because there is a possibilty that something may happen. Imagine if you couldn't sit outside the Waterwitch on a sunny day incase any none-swimmer accidently fell into the canal I have looked at the plans and the balustrade around the terrace is set 1 metre in from the wall so anyone who wanted to jump or mess would have to make a real effort to do so. There are also raised terraces on the back of Mint Cafe Bar, Nags Head (or what ever it is called this week) and Verdi's and I am not aware of any lemmings leaping forth from them just yet. There are roof top bars and restaurants all over the country, are you really saying that Lancaster folk alone can't be trusted in elevated areas.

Humpty Dumpty......sorry old chap Humptey Dumptey. One does not work for Health and Safety, I am just a sensible guy who is unblinkered and sees what idiots breed in lancaster and this is evident from the statistics shown on city centre crime. Anyone with an ounce of commonsense can see a rooftop bar in Lancaster is a disaster waiting to happen.

How about one less idiot..!.. Do you work for Health & Safety 'gone wrong' or something, why dont you start a petition to make stairs illegal in pubs, you never know someone might push someone down them.
