The new Booths store in Milnthorpe has been officially opened by two generations of the family that gave the supermarket its name.

Chief executive Edwin Booth, director Simon Booth, property director Graham Booth and his son Henry Booth, who recently joined the company as a trainee buyer were all at the store off Grisleymires Lane for the grand opening.

The store will create more than 60 new jobs and will contain fresh food counters, including a butchers, fishmongers, delicatessen, hot food and cheesemongers.

Edwin Booth said: “We proudly open the 29th store in the Booths chain in Milnthorpe, a prime position in the heart of Booths country.

“This occasion is especially significant as we also welcome the first of the sixth generation of Booth into the family business to open the store with us.

The new 1,600 square metre store and 126-space car park was approved by South Lakeland District Council in May last year, despite opposition among some independent shopowners who fear their trade could suffer.
