The Lancaster House Hotel has built on an award for its green successes by adding a new environmentally-friendly heating system to the site.
In addition to the hotel itself retaining the National Green Business Tourism Scheme’s gold status, its Sandpiper Leisure Club has just fired up a new biomass boiler.
Fuelled by locally-sourced woodchip, the device will provide all the energy required to heat the pool, jacuzzi, outdoor hot-tub and showers.
The club is thought to be the only leisure facility in the region to be heated via the ‘green fuel’.
Emma Underwood, Lancaster House Hotel operations manager, said: “We’re very proud that we’ve been recognised at the highest level once again for our commitment to the environment.
“Not only have we been able to significantly reduce our fuel and waste bills as well as our overall footprint but, with the help of our guests, we’ve been able to give more funding to local conservation projects and our on-going commitment to some great local charities.
“The addition of the biomass heating system underlines our determination to reduce our environmental impact even further.”
She added: “We still have many more exciting plans for the future.”
