A SITE in Carnforth formerly used by distribution firm TDG could be turned into housing.
The 200,000 sq ft of land on an 11 acre site at Keer Park in Warton Road has been put up for sale for £2.8m.
According to agent Legat Owen, which has been instructed to market the site, the land “may offer potential for a mixed use development, to include employment, residential, community, leisure and ancillary retail uses.”
Development proposals would need to reflect the character of the town and the need for integration with the adjoining town centre and railway station, the agent’s report adds.
Stephen Wade of Legat Owen said: “Keer Park offers a superb, opportunity to acquire a self-contained distribution facility along the M6 corridor.
“The motorway links, combined with the site’s proximity to the Port of Heysham, make this a key logistics site.” The land currently holds warehouses and storage buildings and a self-contained office/staff amenity block, previously used by TDG, which is now based on Caton Road, Lancaster.
However, Carnforth mayor Coun Pat Wooff said it was important to get the infrastructure of the town right before looking to develop more housing.
“I think we have got enough housing in Carnforth,” she said.
