A MEMBER of staff at a Bentham charity has been suspended after “irregularities” were found in its accounts.

North Yorkshire police said it had launched an investigation into claims that up to £28,000 of taxpayers’ funds have been fraudulently taken from the Bentham Development Trust (BDT) and Little Red Bus Craven organisations.

A police spokeswoman added that so far, no one had been arrested.

Craven District Councillor Chris Knowles-Fitton said he understood the investigation was into the finances of the two organisations, which are linked, over the last four years.

He said: “My concern is that Craven District Council has given around £22,000 in grant funding over three years to the Little Red Bus grants committee.

“There needs to be an independent investigation into what went wrong as soon as possible.”
