Businesswoman Clare Lyden is celebrating after she beat off stiff competition from across the North of England to win a top award.
Clare was named winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year category at the regional learndirect Inspiration Awards, after being nominated by PHX Training in Morecambe.
The award celebrates learners who have used learning as a stepping stone to start their own business.
PHX Training nominated Clare for the award as a result of the work she put in to gain the qualifications needed to set up her own furniture restoration business, EmilyClare Interiors, which she launched in September 2014.
Shirley Williams, development director at PHX Training. said: “Clare came to her local learndirect centre, PHX Training in Morecambe, to obtain the IT skills she knew she needed to move forward and set up business.
“She particularly struggled to master spreadsheets, and lacked the know-how in operating social media accounts to run and promote a business.
“But since obtaining qualifications in IT and working closely with tutors, her confidence and determination has been at an all-time high, and she is now the owner of a successful business.”
Clare will now travel to the national finals held in London on July 7, where she will compete against regional winners from Scotland, the Midlands and the south of England.
