Dental practice wrong side of road

A LANCASTER businessman claims his plans for a new dental practice have been turned down because the building is on the wrong side of the road.

Andrew Brakewell hoped one of the new office blocks he has developed in Ovangle Road could be turned into a dentists’ surgery, following interest from an unnamed practice.

But the plans were scuppered when city councillors declared the site should remain for office use only, due to its location on White Lund Industrial Estate.

The property is on the site of the former Moll Industries (Souplex Plastics) site on the very edge of the estate, across the road from Asda and Busy Bees nursery, and Mr Brakewell claims his scheme would have been given the go-ahead if it was positioned just metres away across the road.

“I believe they have turned down a new state-of-the-art practice, in a prime location, with new jobs because it is on the wrong side of the road,” said Mr Brakewell, who owns the Riverway House office building in Morecambe Road. “I stopped work on the building so we could tailor it to a dental practice’s needs, but now I will just have to carry on building offices there.”
