TWENTY new jobs will be created when Lancaster’s new Next store officially opens in St Nicholas Arcades next month.

The new flagship two-storey shop will open on Tuesday April 3 at 10am, taking the total number of staff to 50.

The new outlet will have, for the first time, a home department and petites section.

There will also be more space for children’s shoes and a larger menswear selection.

The new store comes as part of a £2.7m scheme to revitalise shopping in Lancaster, which was unveiled in July 2010.

Next agreed to take the largest unit in the new development – a 10,000 sq ft shop almost three times the size of their current store in Cheapside, which will close on March 28.

Next has been located in Cheapside for 25 years, although it was briefly moved into St Nicholas Arcades in the mid-1990s during a refit.

Two other large new units will also be developed as part of the proposals.

The Next store will incorporate women’s and children’s clothing on the ground floor, with menswear and homeware above.
