RESIDENTS in Greaves have formed a group to air their concerns over plans to turn a pub into retirement properties.

Owner Mitchell’s plans to sell the Greaves Hotel, in Greaves Road, to property developers, McCarthy & Stone, which wants to build a development for older people to continue living independently.

Mitchell’s believes the property is “no longer fit for purpose”, but residents suggest that this may be due to the lack of investment in the building, and say McCarthy & Stone has not listened to their concerns.

“McCarthy & Stone wants to exploit the site as much as it can and intend to build up to 60 apartments together with support services, including a restaurant,” said a residents’ group set up to fight the plans in a statement. “And yet, the proposal is to provide just 20 on-site parking spaces.”
