20 Questions...Richard Garratt

Richard Garratt, co-director of Garratts Insurance Brokers, Lancaster

1 What is your earliest recollection?

Being nipped constantly by a girl at primary school when aged four.

2. What was your first job?

Trainee commercial underwriter at Commercial Union in Manchester in 1981.

3. Happiest memory?

Got to say getting married and the birth of my children! Other than those, it would be becoming national schools cricket champions in 1978 at The Oval.

4. Biggest regret?

Getting released by PNE for being lazy! Just a little more effort and I might have been the next Gary Lineker!

5. Favourite song or artist?

Luther Vandross – Never Too Much.

6. Most-thumbed book?

Kane and Abel – Jeffrey Archer.

7. Website most often visited?

The BBC to check out the news and sport.

8. Best-loved food?

Probably Indian but I love eating generally - that's why I am overweight!

9. What's your tipple?

Not touched a drop for more than 18 months, although I drink too much tea and a daily latte.

10. What's your must-watch TV programme?

Sky Sports News just to catch up but as a specific programme probably Spooks or Hustle.

11. A film not to be missed?

Top Gun or any of the Die Hard movies.

12. Top holiday destination?

I tend not to go back as there are too many different places to visit. Most dramatic scenery would be Kandersteg in the Swiss Alps during the winter and Menorca in the summer.

13. Which football team's result do you look for first on Saturday?

Preston North End.

14. Favourite car?

Audi as an affordable car with aspirations for a new Range Rover in the future.

15. Pet, past or present?

One cat called Tess and 35 tropical fish.

16. Favourite perfume or aftershave?

Issy Miyake.

17. Which personality would you most like to meet?

Margaret Thatcher.

18. Biggest influence on your life so far?

My mother, for the manner in which I was brought up.

19. What difference would a lottery win make to you?

I could buy the Range Rover mentioned above and travel more regularly than now.

20. What would be your dream job?

When I was younger definitely a professional footballer. If I changed career now I would be a sports teacher.
