AN independent church school could open at the former Hornby High School site.

Whinfield School, which is based in Leyland and is run by The Brethren, is on the verge of concluding a deal to buy the Hornby High site from Lancashire County Council.

Hornby High closed in July 2009 amid falling rolls and poor test results.

The Brethren are Christians who dedicate their lives to Jesus’ teachings. The organisation is more than 180 years old and has around 20,000 UK members.
