A GROUP of Conservative footballers led by a Lancaster man have travelled to Rwanda with more than 2,000 donated kits to begin a coaching programme with young people.
The group, which is part of the political party’s Project Umubano, contains Premier League youth team players and amateur coaches, and is led by Stephen Ogden, from Lancaster, who is on a shortlist of potential Conservative parliamentary candidates.
It is holding training sessions for more than 500 children.
The group has received donations of more than 2,000 football kits from the charity Afrikit, and from several English football clubs, including Liverpool, Hull City, Crawley Town, Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest.
