Bike thefts prompt warning to cyclists

POLICE are warning cyclists to be on their guard following a spate of thefts of expensive bicycles in Lancaster.

The first burglary took place at Lune Square, Damside Street, between 10pm on January 18 and 3pm on January 20.

The burglars got into a secure car park before breaking off the locks and stealing the bikes.

One of the bikes was a Hard Rock pro adults mountain bike with a 19ins frame in red and white. The bike has a frame number of WSBC6020793RF.

The second bike was a Marin adults mountain bike in black with gold stripes.

In a separate incident, a Pro-5 mountain bike worth £2,500 was stolen from a shed in the rear garden of a house in Salisbury Road overnight on January 18.

The bike has an orange and white frame.

And in a further burglary, a Trex 6300 mountain bike worth £900 was stolen from Ripley St Thomas CE Academy, where a member of staff had left it locked up between 8.10am on January 17 and 8.30am the following.morning.

The thefts follow an attempted burglary at Diamond Resorts Ltd in Caton Road on December 8, when two men tried to steal a Cannondale bike from a bicycle rack, causing damage to the frame.
