Four suspected metal thieves were arrested near Milnthorpe during a day-long police operation.
Officers joined other law enforcement groups such as the Department of Work and Pensions and Trading Standards to target criminals using the roads.
They set up a static check site on the Lancashire-Cumbria border at Burton Services and vehicles of all descriptions were checked during patrols. During a 12-hour operation on Friday, November 15, the four were held on the A6 near Beetham.
A further four men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft offences on the M6 near Killington.
Police found five vehicles in such a serious condition they were served with prohibition notices, preventing them from travelling further.
Other drivers were issued with fixed penalty tickets for offences ranging from not having MOTs to defective tyres.
