It is thought that the man jumped from the Hampson Road bridge at Galgate at about 2.45am and landed on the carriageway between the exit slip road for junction 33 and the hard shoulder.

The man has been named as Lee Westbury, 29, of Heysham.

Road Policing Sgt James Power said: “This is an extremely sad and tragic accident and my condolences go out to the family.

“I would appeal for anyone who may have seen this incident or who saw the man beforehand to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting incident reference 182 0f November 14th.
