A man charged with the murder of a Lancaster University student has been remanded in custody.
Kiaran Stapleton, 20, from Ordsall, Salford, appeared before City of Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning in connection with the death of Anuj Bidve on Boxing Day.
Wearing a grey Nike T-shirt and grey jogging bottoms, Stapleton gave his name as “Psycho Stapleton” when asked for his details in the dock.
Lancaster University student Mr Bidve, 23, described as a “promising and clever” student, was shot once in the head after being approached by a lone gunman at around 1.30am on December 26. He died a short time later in hospital.
He was with a group of fellow Indian students visiting Manchester for Christmas when he was murdered.
Stapleton was remanded in custody to appear before Manchester Crown Court.
