Anger over Lancaster day centre closure

ANGRY elderly people say they have been left with nowhere to go after council chiefs decided to close their Lancaster day centre.

A final decision to close Luneside Day Centre in Pinfold Lane, Skerton, was made by Lancashire County Council on Wednesday, meaning daytime users will be relocated to the newly refurbished Thorpe View Day Centre in Thorpe View, Morecambe, from July 1.

But members of four evening groups at the centre – many of whom are elderly and suffer from health problems – say they have received very little information about the closure and feel they have been dealt with unfairly by the council.

Arthritis Lancaster, Lancaster Stroke Club, Good Companions and the Lancaster and District Homebound Fellowship have up to 30 members each.

Some of them have been meeting at the centre for more than 20 years free of charge.
