PARKING wardens issued 86 fines in just five weeks within a controversial new residents’ parking zone – sparking dozens of complaints from angry motorists.
The zone was introduced on 13 streets in the Dallas Road, Regent Street and Brook Street areas of Lancaster on February 1 after some residents complained that commuters and shoppers were preventing them from parking outside their own homes.
For the first two weeks, wardens issued warning notices instead of fines, but in the five weeks to March 22 they handed out 86 fixed penalty notices.
Of those, 12 have already been cancelled following appeals and highways chiefs have now pledged to review the scheme in the coming months.
