A series of events this week will celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Horse.

Lancaster’s Market Square will host the main celebrations this Sunday (February 9) from 11am.

The Chinese Lion Dancers will roar into town weaving through the city centre streets.

Chinese New Year Markets will sell tasty food and gifts, and there will be dancing, martial arts displays and live music by More Music.

The Chinese New Year Gala Dinner returns with this year’s theme ‘Golden Era’ on Monday, February 10 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. This is a glamorous evening of jazz and swing with a Chinese twist at Lancaster Town Hall.

There will be a feast of Chinese food and entertainment with traditional Chinese music and dance performances with Northern Dragons Lion Dance, More Music, Lancaster University Music Society’s Big Band and special guests. Live at LICA and The Storey in Lancaster are also hosting an exhibition of works by artist Wu Chi-Tsung until March 21.
