This year’s Visitor Sunshine Ambassador is marking a new milestone.

Cedric Robinson MBE is celebrating 50 years as the Queen’s Guide to the Sands of Morecambe Bay.

And to honour this remarkable achievement, which also coincides with his 80th birthday, Great Northern are releasing his new book ‘Time and Tide – 50 Golden Years on Morecambe Bay’.

Cedric Robinson is internationally famous for his unique role in guiding more than 10,000 people a year over the treacherous sands of the bay.

In his book, he looks back over the last half century, reflecting on both the beauty and dangers of Morecambe Bay.

He compares today’s cross bay walks with those of the 1960s when conditions and weather patterns were very different.

As someone still actively fishing, he also covers changes in the fascinating world of cockles and flooks.

Special features include Cedric’s selection of favourite photographs that evocatively capture the bay in all its moods.

And touchingly, there are many 50th anniversary tributes and recollections from those who have found the walk unforgettable.

Cedric reflects on cross bay walks that have raised millions for charity, bay dramas and rescues, crossing the sands on horseback and filming with the famous.
