Plans for 53 new homes to be built on the site of a former day care centre have been given the go-ahead.

City councillors voted unanimously last week on an application to knock down existing buildings at Riverview House in Bulk Road and build 53 properties.

Plans submitted to the city council by Darren Leary state that the scheme will consist of 16 one-bed apartments, 13 two-bed houses, three two-bed bungalows and 21 three-bed houses – all of which would be for ‘affordable rent’ through a registered provider.

Meanwhile, a new 54-home scheme will also be built at Mossgate Park in Heysham.

Councillors gave the thumbs up to Miller Homes’ plans for mainly two-storey homes on undeveloped land near Laureston Avenue.

Twenty-one of the houses will be available for social rent, with the rest to be sold on the open maket.
