REVIEW: Stones in his Pockets, Lancaster Grand Theatre
WHEN a show is back on at The Lowry in Manchester by popular demand it's likely to be very good indeed.
And when that same show was on in Lancaster a few nights later it felt like the Grand had secured a real coup.
A shame then that the audience for Stones in his Pockets on Monday night numbered just a few dozen people.
But those that did go had a fabulous time.
The comedy by Marie Jones has won numerous awards. The play focuses on a Hollywood movie being filmed in a small Irish village and its impact on the community who volunteer to become extras.
It's a bittersweet comedy with 15 characters, all performed by just two actors Jack Reynolds and David Caves.
And they rely on great acting rather than props and costumes to differentiate the characters.
There was plenty of references to The Quiet Man - the Hollywood movie with John Wayne which was set in Ireland - and other in jokes for the acting community who seemed to make up the majority of the audience.
It's a really funny play and the actors performed their parts with panache.
I can't actually remember the last time I enjoyed seeing anything at the Grand Theatre so much.
And it's on again tonight, Tuesday, so don't miss it. Tickets priced at 16/14.
