Lancaster’s Little Book of Local Food & Drink brings together tips, guides and resources to help local people source local food.
The free booklet has been published by Lancaster-based Community Interest Company, LESS, and contains information on:
*What’s in season and when, locally
*Growing your own food
*Edible wild plants
*Local specialities, producers and sources
*Sustainable and ethical eating
*Local events, groups and projects.
Used in tandem with the Seasonal and Local Food Calendar (also produced by LESS), the booklet can provide a unified resource for those keen on sustainable eating. The wallchart indicates what foods are in season throughout a typical Lancashire year including fruit, vegetables, herbs and wild plants..
LESS have also released an online guide to local produce – The Local Food Directory –containing around 200 searchable listings of local farmers, retailers and suppliers.
Emily Heath, a director of LESS and co-author of the Little Book, said: “We hope these resources will raise awareness of the fantastic diversity of local food.”
