PUTTING buses on our cycle lanes was proposed by the Lancaster Vision Board for local transport, in the Guardian on March 14.
Let's imagine this. You're pushing the pram, you're walking the kids to school, taking the dog for a walk, cycling to work, or on a leisurely stroll.
Hey, look out! Here comes the No 2 to Morecambe.
Running slightly behind schedule, it sways
past as you bury yourself, the kids and the pram into the welcome hawthorn bush.
Well, we cyclepath users can't really complain about such minor inconveniences, since we all know it is really a shared use path.
We should probably welcome motor vehicles and even HGVs on the path when there's gridlock on the Lancaster to Morecambe Road. We could call it the northern relief path, abandon our rapidly inflating M6 bypass and save ourselves £140 million.
In fact, opening up all our quiet routes, like the canal towpath for example, could be the solution to our traffic congestion.
Or even banning pedestrians and cyclists altogether from shared paths and renaming them roads.
Now, why didn't I think of this brilliant grey skies scheme?
Well, because unlike Catherine Potter and their blurred Vision Board, the taxpayer didn't give me £120,000 to squander.
