IT'S not readily apparent that letters to the local newspapers receive the response they merit.
Over 12 months ago I pointed out the undulating appearance of the A6 crossing Skerton Bridge (even to the naked eye), and asked if there was any significance that the dips in the road coincided with the arches of the bridge.

The subject was raised
again in a recent edition of the Lancaster Guardian.

Some time ago another of your correspondents queried why the western route for an M6 link was dismissed out of hand without any apparent considerations. A question on many lips, and raised again recently.

The acronym NIMBY has been bandied about – generally in the direction of Torrisholme and Cross Hill, but let no-one forget that it first belonged to the Newts in My Back Yard on the Marsh.

What a fortunate discovery that was for the residents of Aldcliffe and Ashton-with-Stodday who must have been out day and night searching for just such an endangered species in their locality!

I've lived in Lancaster and Morecambe for over 60 years and never heard of them there (only in the vicinity of Mill Street).

With costs rising weekly by thousands of pounds and apparently no guarantee that sufficient funding will ever be readily guaranteed, is it not time that proper consideration was given to every road improvement scheme.

Let's not all wear the same blinkers that the government inspector was saddled with at last summer's public enquiry.

Here is a great opportunity for a Guardian competition! A Spot-the-Newt competition. The prize, given to those who cannot find any - a Western by-pass.
