LANCASTER Girls' Grammar School has been highlighted as outstanding for the fourth time in a national report.
Ofsted's annual report, launched this week, brings together evidence from almost 40,000 inspections during 2008/09.
The outstanding providers listed include facilities for childcare, social care, schools, colleges and providers of work-based learn
ing and adult education. Most were inspected between September 1, 2008 and August 31, 2009.
Lancaster Girls' Grammar School was judged to be outstanding for overall effectiveness for the fourth time.
LGGS head Jackie Cahalin said: "Being graded outstanding requires a great deal of hard work and commitment. Gaining the outstanding judgement four times represents an enormous amount of sustained effort from the whole school community."
"We were especially pleased that Ofsted recognised the very special ethos of LGGS and the emphasis we place on developing the whole person.
"It was also heartening to see that Ofsted recognised the key role our sixth formers play in the success of the school, referring to them as our role models and ambassadors."
Others from Lancaster district described as outstanding were: Central Lancaster High School, Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale; St Wilfrid's CE School in Halton; Yealand CE School, Wennington Hall School, Bleasdale House in Silverdale, Cedar House School in Kirkby Lonsdale and Treetops nursery at Lancaster & Morecambe College.
