A woman has died and two people have been seriously injured in a four vehicle collision on the M6 between Bilsborrow and Claughton-on-Brock in the early hours of this morning, Friday.
The female driver of a Ford Escort was pronounced dead at the scene, and the female passenger has sustained serious injuries.

The male driver of a Vauxhall Astra also sustained serious injuries in the collision, which took place at approximately 1.15am. Those involved are believed to be from the south of England.

The male driver of a white Mercedes Sprinter received minor injuries, while the driver of an HGV was unhurt.

Those that were injured have been taken to the Royal Preston Hospital.

A northbound stretch of the M6 was closed for several hours and traffic was diverted off the motorway at Broughton and along the A6 causing severe delays.

Police re-opened the M6 northbound at around 8am, and are now appealing for witnesses to the collision.

Anyone with information should call 08451 25 35 45.
