Cyclist dies after lorry crash

A CYCLIST from Lancaster who was hit by a HGV on Thursday afternoon has died in hospital.
Carl Stuart Blamire, 24, was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with serious head injuries after he collided with the lorry in Morecambe Road at 2.45pm.

He died from his injuries at 3pm on Friday.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to come forward, and anyone with information should call Lancaster police on 01524 63333, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Instead of promoting cycling on public roads, steps should taken to prevent more instances of this nature happening. How many more deaths are needed before people realise that cycling on public roads is dangerous.

How unpleasant: jump in when there's a casualty and try to bully cyclists off the roads. What next, 'Superman' - ban pedestrians? That would make life safer too. All road users have rights, and vulnerable ones especially so.

It's also factually wrong. When the number of cyclists on the road increases the death and injury rate declines because motorists become more aware of cyclists. So promoting cycling makes cyclists safer. Cyclists are the solution, not the problem.
