Zico released by City
LANCASTER City winger Ryan-Zico Black has been released from the club.
But boss Barrie Stimpson admitted the decision was the toughest of his managerial career.
With promotion becoming more doubtful, Stimpson released the 26-year old midfielder on Good Friday to cut down on club expenses.
Black, who made his City debut in August 2005, was playing in his third spell for the Dolly Blues.
Despite making 33 appearances for the club this season, Black has struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot in recent weeks.
Although Black has delivered a couple of man-of-the-match performances this term, the forward has only netted four goals with three coming from the penalty spot.
However, Stimpson praised Black's temperament and ability.
He said: "Ryan is a good player with a first class attitude as he never misses training.
"I've made this decision because it's unlikely we're going to get promoted or relegated and it's my duty to prepare for next season.
"It's the hardest decision I've ever made as a manager.
"Ryan has never played below the Conference North and he's found it difficult to settle into this league.
"He'll be disappointed and I would be surprised if he wasn't disappointed."
Black has represented Northern Ireland at Under 21 international level and played for a host of clubs including Paul Gascoigne's Kettering Town, Morecambe, Northwich Victoria and Barrow.
Stimpson believes Black still has a bright future in the game and added: "I am sure Ryan will get snapped up by a Conference North club because he is used to playing at that level.
"I am willing to ring up other managers personally and ask them to take a look at him for the last six weeks of the season."
