On the last Saturday of the Lancaster Honda North Lancashire and District Football League season only one issue was outstanding – could Storeys avoid defeat against Ingleton.
They went into the game knowing a win or a draw would give them the Premier Division Championship, while defeat would hand the title to Marsh United.

Storeys started the better team and went in front after just 10 minutes, when Gareth Turner was
brought down in the penalty area.
Andy Sanderson stepped up to beat Kellett with ease to record his 24th consecutive spot-kick success.

Within 10 minutes Storeys were two-up, as Andy Sanderson crept into the six-yard box to beat Kellett to the ball and turn it into the net.

Storeys kept going forward looking to kill the game off and missed two good chances, but Ingleton are renowned fighters who never give.

After a slow start they came into the game and reduced the arrears to 2-1 when Jack Bland got the final touch in a goalmouth scramble, following a corner which Storeys keeper Nuno Rosario turned on to the bar.

Ingleton raised their game and started to cause Storeys problems and the impressive Chris Bibby drew the sides level. Ingleton were the better team now and went looking for more but Storeys held out to half-time.

After a good team-talk Storeys started the second-half the better team, but Ingleton held firm and threatened Storeys whenever they moved forward, with the versatile Bibby proving a handful.

Storeys then made the vital breakthrough following a wonderful 40-yard diagonal pass from Andy Sanderson, who found Tom Gammon.

He beat the full-back before crossing to Steven Stirzaker who made amends for two earlier misses by slotting the ball under the diving Kellett.

The last 20 minutes were end-to-end, with both sides looking dangerous.
Storeys made the game safe though when Steven Stirzaker scored from close-in making it 4-2.

The final-whistle sounded much to the delight of the Storeys players, who – after a long hard season – have the title in the bag.

The game was excellently controlled by the experienced Peter McDonnell.

In Division One Champions Morecambe Hoops ended the season with a 15-goal thriller against Storeys Reserves.

Hoops led 5-0 at half-time, but Storeys – who lost their unbeaten record midweek when they lost 2-0 against runners-up Halton Rangers, fought back to put the Hoops defence under a lot of pressure and managed to score six second-half goals.

The game turned out to be all-out attack, with both sides scoring almost at will, Hoops finally winning 9-6, with goalkeeper John Boothroyd, Kevin Burns, Andy Charnley, Des Martinez (2), captain Robert Goldsborough, Dave Riley (2) and substitute James Stewart taking Hoops past 100 league goals for the season.

Storeys replied through Joe Flynn, David Leslie (3) and veteran Paul Fraser (2).

Ingleton Reserves and Vine served up a good game of attacking football as a follow-up to the main game played beforehand.

Vine took their chances better and went into a 2-0 lead through Robert Crump and Sean Gordon.

Ingleton Reserves pulled one back when Jonathon Boadle scored, before Vine went into a 3-1 lead when Gareth Hammond scored.

It looked all over for Ingleton but with just 10 minutes remaining they turned the game round to draw level through Alex Hartley and a first of the season for young William Kelly.

Marsh United Reserves faced Millhead in a game which had to be replayed as Marsh played an ineligible player in the original game.

The replay ended the same way as the original game, except that Marsh's win was more emphatic.

Goals from Scott Sparks, Jordan Sparks and two from James Cunniski made the final score 4-0 – the original game ended 2-1.
