DON'T panic, the Globe Arena will be open on time!
That's the message from the Shrimps board as workmen continue to race against the clock to complete the £12million stadium ahead of Morecambe's first match of the season proper on August 10 - against Coventry City in the Carling Cup.

The footballing side of the ground - including the pitch, terraces and seating for over 6,000 supporters - looked close to completion and absolutely fantastic when The Visitor popped in to view the Globe last Friday afternoon.

But, just over two weeks before the big kick-off, there was plenty of internal work still to do, with the bar, function room, corporate boxes and changing rooms among those areas still unfinished.

Still, Mark Dixon, commercial director, said he was "confident" the Globe would be ready for when the club gets the keys on August 6.
"The lads working on it are confident and the club is working closely with them," said Mr Dixon.

"There is someone on site from Morecambe FC constantly to make sure issues that crop up are dealt with.

"No-one was more frustrated than (the board) when we had to delay the opening but August 10 was always going to be the first competitive game of the season and that's still the same."

Shrimps assistant manager Mark Lillis, and players Stewart Drummond, Garry Hunter, Neil Wainwright and Barry Roche also visited the Globe for the first time on Friday.

Mark Lillis said: "It's fantastic. The main stand looks brilliant. You can see everyone pulling together to get it done."

You can read more of Mark Lillis's and Mark Dixon's thoughts, as well as the views of Stewart Drummond and Neil Wainwright, and others connected to Morecambe FC, in our special supplement devoted to the opening of the Globe Arena in next week's Visitor.
