A FIRED-UP Bolton side inflicted more away-day misery on the Vikings. The home side made their intentions clear immediately by driving the Viking pack back over their line to register the game's first score. A combination of a heavy pitch and the home side's superiority at the scrum restricted the visitors' chances.

A glimmer of hope was offered by stand-off Hughes who made a trademark interception, running in from the half way line to score. The second half turned into a dour slog in the mud, with Bolton making the decisive breakthrough following a defensive mix up in the Vale ranks.

Vale Vikings: Eccleston, Willacy, Bolton, Acton, Brett Smith, Hartley, Griffith, Manning, Hill, Hughes, McAllister, Rigby, Birchall, Houghton, Jones. Rep: Hill.
