IF just one word sums up Lancaster Library's Get It Loud initiative it must surely be diverse.
One event to the next can appeal to a huge array of music lovers, from teenage rock fans to mature muso-types. And sometimes that diversity can also be found nestling cosily on the same bill.
When headliner Yoav took the stage on Saturday evening, the air of anticipation was palpable.
Hardly surprising given that he was self-described on MySpace as a cross between Beck, Jeff Buckley and Bjork. Quite a lot to live up to, one would imagine.
Unfortunately I suspect that there was a touch of egocentric poetic licence at work.
While Yoav proved himself skilful as an innovative user of the guitar and numerous effects, his songs struggled to engage with this listener.
He came across as a bit smug and desperate to be taken very seriously indeed.
My other half even went so far as to say it was a bit like a Jean Michel Jarre concert so was the performer's intensity and dedication to multi-layered loops and admittedly clever technique.
Even his attempt at indie-credibilty fell foul on my ears as he did a James-Blunt-covers-the-Pixies version of Where Is My Mind.
Despite my personal reservations, Yoav seemed to go down well with much of the audience and must have been delighted with his first gig in a library.
By huge contrast support act, Burnley's Lucy and the Caterpillar, was kooky and personable.
Two spectators were heard to utter the word 'twee', which was fair but frankly I was rather endeared to this enchanting solo singer/songwriter and her sweetly simplistic tales of animals and alcohol-fuelled daydreams.
Opening the evening's entertainment was Lancaster's very own Ampersands who I missed through sheer tardiness (and wanting to have my tea) though I believe they played a well-received set.
The continued strength of these supeb gigs is assured and I cannot recommend them enough, be sure to get tickets for Poppy and The Jezebels who will be bringing their Brummy all-girl indie-rock to the library on February 2.
