Opera: HEYSHAM Operatic Society, well known for their Gilbert and Sullivan productions, are venturing into the world of opera at Lancaster's Grand Theatre tonight, Friday.
The society's three night performance of Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II comes to a close tonight.
Strauss' famous score together with a company of well-known artists and singers from the area, will contribute to a memorable performance for all.
The performance starts at 7.15pm and tickets cost £9.

Folk
TANGLEFOOT, a stunning five-piece top flight band from Ontario, Canada, will be performing at Morecambe's Platform tomorrow, Saturday. With powerful vocals, dazzling instrumentals and exuberant stage presence, Tanglefoot play original Canadian folk music with great panache. Their stage show is exciting, uplifting and amusing and they are high energy entertainers of the highest order.

Band
SALSA Celtica is a unique group, bringing an exciting and exuberant performance to the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal following a sell-out visit as part of the Gateway festival last year. Stirring and passionate Cuban salsa music meets authentic and energetic Celtic sounds in the shape of this 11-piece band hailing from Edinburgh. Salsa Celtica will be at the Malt Room at the Brewery Arts Centre on Friday May 2 at 8pm. Tickets are £14 on 01539 752133.
Film
A STAR-studded action adventure based on an iconic Marvel superhero comes to Lancaster's Vue cinema this weekend.
Iron Man tells of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Using his intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high–tech suit of armour and escapes captivity.
The Iron Man armour provides Stark with superhuman strength and physical protection. When he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armour and vows to protect the world as Iron Man.
The film, also starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges and Samuel L. Jackson, screens from today, Friday.
Art
ETCHINGS by Frank Auerbach are now on show at the Abbot Hall, Kendal.
Auerbach is viewed as one of the most important painters working in the UK today.
Now the gallery has put together 40 of his drawings from his six decade long career.
The show is open 10.30am – 5pm Monday to Saturday, admission £5.45.
* On May 15, critic and curator William Feaver, who has sat as a model for Auerbach on a weekly basis for some years, will be giving a talk.
