Concert: MEZZO soprano Wendy Sharrock gives a taste of the life and music of Kathleen Ferrier, one of the greatest contralto singers England has ever produced, at Morecambe's Platform tonight, Friday.
Wendy's programme of songs, which became popular through Kathleen's
performances, includes Blow The Wind Southerly and The Keel Row as well as pieces by Handel, Schubert and Mendelssohn.
She will be accompanied by Charles Edmondson from Kendal on keyboard.
Kathleen Ferrier was born in Higher Walton, just outside Preston. By the time she died in 1953 she was a huge international star.
Wendy Sharrock was born in Morecambe and went to the Guildhall School of Music in London.

AN Oscar-winning performance by Daniel Day-Lewis comes to the Dukes cinema this weekend.
There Will Be Blood is a sprawling epic about family, faith, power and oil, set on the incendiary frontier of California's turn-of-the-
century petroleum boom.
The story chronicles the life and times of Daniel Plainview who transforms himself from a down-and-out silver miner and single father into a self-made oil tycoon.
But as oil raises his fortunes conflicts escalate and every human value is imperilled by corruption, deception.
There will be blood will show tonight, Friday, at 5.30pm, tomorrow at 7.45pm, Sunday at 7pm and Monday at 5.30pm.

RECAPTURE the sounds and memories of a bygone era at Lancaster Grand Theatre this weekend.
The Nick Ross Orchestra will be performing an evening of music and song from The Glenn Miller Era tomorrow, Saturday.
Among the memorable Miller classics to be enjoyed will be Moonlight Serenade and there will be plenty more great tunes to get you
dancing in the aisles.

CATCH Joe McGann in Fiddler on the Roof at Blackpool's Grand Theatre from April 1 - 5.
This new nationwide tour features star of stage and screen Joe McGann (best known for his role as Charlie Burrows in TV's The Upper Hand) as the endearing Jewish dairyman Tevye who dreams of riches, respect and a quiet family life.
Fiddler on the Roof contains a rousing score full of memorable melodies including Tradition, Matchmaker Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset, To Life! and of course the wonderfully unforgettable If I Were a Rich Man.
The show starts at 7.30pm with Thursday and Saturday matinees at 2pm.

Exhibition
A NEW exhibition of paintings by Lancaster artist and tutor Graham Lowe will be showing in the Dukes Gallery until April 17.
Dark Origins is the latest collection of work from the artist whose murals can be seen gracing many buildings in Morecambe.
The new work explores the use of colour, shape and form to create meditative abstract paintings.
Graham explains: "My paintings contain many references to the natural world.
"In particular the northern landscape with its field patterns, dry stone walls, way markers, rocky outcrops and standing stones."
The exhibition runs until April 17 and is free.
