THIS weekend sees the fifth annual Glasson Dock Folk Music Festival – and it promises to be the best yet.
Building on the success of the past four years, the 2008 festival has more music, more attractions and more fun to be had for all visitors.
The festival will see three days of music and merry making kick off today, Friday, and run through until Sunday.

Folk lovers can expect to see the likes of Minnie Moosika, producers of frenetic foot stamping music from Eastern Europe featuring clarinet, fiddle, double-bass, mandola, voice and guitar.

Also featuring are Howden jones. Said to play contemporary acoustic music at its best, Howdenjones have superb arrangements, breathtaking harmonies, down to earth virtuosity and an infectious delight in live performance.

Lancaster's own The Balkanics Band also take to the stage.
Formed in the autumn of 2007 and playing mainly Balkan and Klezmer tunes from their own unique perspective, the seven piece Balkanics feature two fiddles, a cello, accordion, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, whistle and percussion which can make for a very big sound.

Other names on the bill are Martin Simpson, Hotcha, Emma and the Professor Band and Gladly Solemn Sound.

The festival will include many attractions apart from the great live music.

Storytelling, music workshops, children's activities and holistic health demonstrations will all compliment the festival's main attractions.

Tickets start from £10 with a full weekend ticket setting you back £27.50.

Camping at the festival costs £5 for a single night or £7.50 for a weekend pitch.

For more information on the festival or to buy tickets go to www.glassonfestival.org.uk.
