LANCASTER'S annual celebration of all things apple arrives tomorrow, Saturday.

In a celebration of local apples, Lancaster's Fairfield Association are organising
their second Apple Day with stalls in Lancaster's Market Square plus food and games
in Fairfield Community Orchard.
Tree
From 10am and 2pm in Market Square, you can try different apple varieties, buy Lancashire heritage apple trees, try your hand at creating the longest apple peel, get advice on growing all types of fruit tree, and buy home-made chutney and local honey.
If you have a mystery apple tree in your garden for identifying, please bring along two or three apples from it to the stall in Market Square between
10am and noon and an expert will be on hand to identify
them.
In Fairfield Community Orchard, volunteers will be serving an Apple Day lunch platter from 12.30pm for £5, with local cheeses and a choice of organic cider or apple juice.
At 2pm you can play traditional apple games, such as Snap Apple and Apple Bobbing.
You can also help press apples for juice and if you have spare apples, bring yours along for juicing.
At 4pm, tea and home-made apple cakes will be served.
Orchard trustee Simon Gershon said: "This is our second year running Apple Day events in Lancaster's only community orchard.
"We would love to see more people visiting Fairfield Orchard and being involved. Apple day this year should be lots of fun."
Fairfield Community Orchard has recently been awarded a £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery to enable more school visits to the site.
The orchard was planted in 2000 with a grant from the Millennium Commission.
Grant
The land is city council-owned, but the orchard is maintained by volunteers from the community.
The entrance to Fairfield Community Orchard is at the end of Sunnyside Lane/Ash-field Avenue, off Westbourne Road.
