Conlons Opticians have tested themselves with a charity walk that raised funds for North West Cancer Research (NWCR).

To mark the opticians’ 130th anniversary, the team made up of employees from the 17 branches in the North West embarked upon a seven-mile sponsored walk and raised in excess of £5,500.

In September, the Conlons group began their challenge by camping near Hawkshead.

The following morning the group started their walk, which finished at Tarn Hows in the Lake District National Park later that day.

John Welsby, Managing Director of Conlons Opticians said: “We wanted to mark our momentous year with a challenge and support a local charity so for every pound raised Conlons Opticians has matched the sponsorship.

“NWCR funds vital research projects to help us understand cancer so we are thrilled to have raised in excess of £5,500 and hope it will make a real difference.”

Anne Jackson, Chief Executive of NWCR said: “Without fundraising efforts like this the charity would not be able to thrive and support the projects we do.

“Given the local incidence of cancer it is critical that that the North West remains at the forefront of cancer research.”
