A development of new retirement homes in Silverdale is nearing completion.

Cove Orchard is being built by by Applethwaite Ltd, a division of the Eric Wright Group, and is due for completion next month.

The 14 homes are located in the grounds of Cove House, a residential care home owned and managed by Silverdale Abbeyfield Society.

There is also a residents lounge and access to communal grounds including a seating area with spectacular views across Morecambe Bay.

Each resident will have access to advice and support from an experienced Cove House manager, who will help to plan and arrange support and care if required.

The development includes eight two-bedroom bungalows, two three-bedroom dormer bungalows and four two-bedroom apartments.

Bungalow and ground-floor apartments have private patio areas for sitting out.

Nearly half of the homes have now been sold off plan.

James Whewell from Applethwaite Ltd, said: “Demand has been high and the houses are getting snapped up fast.

“There is a real need in the area for assisted living and having such beautiful surroundings has made this development an attractive prospect for local residents.”

June Greenwell, chair of trustees at Abbeyfield Silverdale, added: “Cove Orchard is the result of an innovative partnership between Applethwaite Ltd and Abbeyfield Silverdale Society and is a good example of a voluntary organisation and a private company working together to meet an important social need.

“As Trustees we had a clear vision of what was needed and although we had land available, we lacked the know-how or the finance to turn our vision into a reality.”
