A WOMAN returned home to find fire ravaging her stone cottage.
Two fire engines were called to the scene at Carr House off Littledale Road, between Brookhouse and Quernmore, at 8.44pm last night, (SUN MAR 7) after she raised the alarm at a neighbour's house.

Watch manager John Timperley, of Lancaster Fire Station, said she had been wise not to enter the house.

"Her actions probably prevented serious injuries," he said. "The damage to the property was severe."

Crews spent more than two hours fighting the flames, which blew out windows.

The cause of the fire, which began on the ground floor of the two-storey house, is under investigation.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
