A GANG escaped with cigarettes worth thousands of pounds during a midnight raid at a Lancaster petrol station.
Police say the four men parked their vehicle on a side street before attempting to gain entry to the Texaco Toll Bar Service Station in Scotforth Road through the door.
When that failed they smashed an elevated side window, placed a bed sheet over the frame and climbed down into the premises, concealing their faces from the CCTV cameras with hoods.
Alarms were activated but they still had time to force open the cigarette cabinet and escape with their haul.
Police believe a professional gang may be responsible.
Anyone with information on the raid, which happened at midnight yesterday, should contact police on 01524 63333 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
