A man was found dead behind a Lancaster city centre cafe at Monday lunchtime.
Anthony James Holt, 34, from King Street, Lancaster, was found hanged in the garden of the popular Whale Tail cafe.

A customer made the grim discovery and alerted a member of staff as the busy lunchtime rush began.

Shocked staff immediately cleared the cafe, closed up and called the police.

Ambulance crews were called out to the Penny Street cafe at 12.14pm but Mr Holt was dead when they arrived.

Co-owner Rachel Craw said: "It was a truly upsetting thing to happen.
"It was quite chaotic when it happened but the police were fantastic and their response was immediate.

"They were understanding with the staff who were upset.

"Afterwards we did wonder why us. Our hearts go out to any family the man may have."

It is thought Mr Holt has family in the Burnley area.

A post mortem is due to take place this week, after which an inquest will be opened.
