A CRANE caught light on the M6 near Lancaster.
Crews from Lancaster Fire Station were called to the incident on the northbound section of the motorway near junction 34 at 12.07pm on Monday. (JUNE 23)

Watch Manager Karl Vietoris said the drivers of the crane and support van had pulled onto the hard shoulder and used dry powder extinguishers on board to douse the flames.

Firefighters finished the job using water. Mr Vietoris said rubber tubing and plastic insulation had been destroyed, but that the crane, owned by Ainscough Crane Hire Ltd of Standish, had not suffered severe damage.
